Endo is perhaps the tightest, lightest, best edited, and most pleasant of all the Cinemalaya entries I’ve seen in the past three years. A love story with a plot not much different from GMA Films’ valentine offerings, it succeeds due to its refreshingly ‘natural’ script and a cast of effective actors.
Kadin (by Adolfo Alix, whose last year’s Donsol was my sentimental favorite), on the other hand, is somewhat disappointing. The emotional effect of the breathtaking Batanes shots and the beautiful beats of the score was diluted by the thin script (too subtle that it was almost vague). Gerry goes to Batanes!
Tomorrow, Tribu (festival Best Picture winner, which, according to a friend, is City of God-ish) and some splendid short films.
